Red Flash Track & Field Opens Season at Bucknell’s Bison Invitational

 

LEWISBURG, Pa. (Dec. 1, 2007) – The Saint Francis men’s and women’s track & field teams started the 2007-08 indoor season on Saturday by competing in the Bison Invitational at Bucknell University.

 

Several Red Flash student-athletes recorded top finishes in the non-scored event.

 

On the men’s side, Saint Francis won three events. Junior Josh Hazen (Vernon, N.J. / Vernon) won the Shot Put with a distance of 16.53 meters, while junior Jorden Davis (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada / Loyola Catholic) finished first in the 400-meter dash (49.16 seconds) and senior Ian Butcher (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada / Christ the King) won the 300-meter dash (35.84 seconds).

 

Hazen paced a group of three Red Flash student-athletes who finished in the top five of the Shot Put. Senior Jordan Hess (McConnellsburg, Pa. / McConnellsburg) took second (16.10 meters) and junior Ben Madeira (Summerhill, Pa. / Forest Hills) finished fifth (15.62 meters).

 

Junior Karl DeWayngaert (Red Bank, N.J. / Red Bank) and Madeira finished second and third, respectively, in the Weight Throw with distances of 18.91 meters and 17.24 meters.

 

Senior James Bush (Baltimore, Md. / St. Francis Prep) took home a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.83 seconds.

 

Butcher, Bush, freshman Jacob Librizzi, and Davis then finished the day’s event with a fourth-place showing in the 4x400-yard relay in 3:24.46.

 

On the Saint Francis women’s team, seniors Kayla Herron (Cumberland, Ohio / John Glenn) and Lisa Morse (Freedom, N.Y. / Pioneer Central) each won events.

 

Herron finished first in the Weight Throw with a distance of 17.35 meters, and Morse won the Shot Put with a toss of 14.28 meters.

 

Senior Kora Hardy (Salisbury, Md. / James M. Benett) took third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.49 seconds, and senior Brittni Smallwood (Somerset, N.J. / Bishop George) finished fourth in the 60-meter dash in 7.90 seconds.

 

The Red Flash will be back in action for the second, and final, time before the Christmas break when they travel to Kent State this Saturday for a 2 p.m. event.
