Senior Hozempa Paces Flash for Swimmer of the Week Accolade with Win over Mount St. Mary's, 108-79
Loretto, Pa. – The Saint Francis women’s swimming team swam away with their second Northeast Conference Award after sinking NEC rival Mount St. Mary’s by a tally of 108-79. Senior captain, Stephanie Hozempa (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads), took first place in two events during the dual meet.
Hozempa’s victories came in the 200 IM and 200 breast, coming in at times of 2:17.38 and 2:34.16, in that order. The two-time letter winner and member of the school record holding 200-yard freestyle relay set a career best with her 2:17.38 time for the 200 breast.
The Red Flash swimmers are the only school to have been decorated with two NEC awards this season. The first accolade came to the Flash on the week of October 30, 2007, when Blair Kosela (Crescent, PA/Moon Area) placed first in the 50 and 100 free with times of 25.17 and 55.25, respectively; leading to a victory over Loyola.
Saint Francis will continue their fine season when they travel to Indiana, Pa., to partake in the Crimson Hawk Invitational hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania, starting on November 15 and concluding on November 17.
