Red Flash ready for first-ever post-season game

[DOWNLOAD NOTES PACKAGE]

LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 1, 2007) -- Saint Francis, the victim of an agonizing nine-game season-opening skid, snapped out of their slump just in time for the conference play to record the most successful month in the program’s seven-year history.

In 2007, Saint Francis earned its most-ever wins in a season (4), earned an unprecedented winning record in conference play (4-3), won consecutive games for the first time ever, and shredded the team record book (linked notes package). But of all of the records that fell and milestones reached, the sweetest has got to be the Red Flash’s first-ever berth in the Northeast Conference tournament.

Leading the way into SFU’s first ever post-season is junior forward Belen Albanes. The Atlanta native scored her way to the program records for goals (10) and points (21) in a season and currently stands just one point shy of Erin N. Davis’ career points record of 35 (14g/7a).

The Flash also have a stud in goal in junior Erin Reifsteck, who ranks in the top-15 nationally in save percentage (14th, .788) and in saves per game (4th, 9.40). Reifsteck was forced to sit out during last week’s 7-1 loss at Lock Haven after receiving a red card in SFU’s 2-1 overtime win at Robert Morris on Oct. 21.

Now, Saint Francis will face off against Lock Haven for the second time in two weeks on Friday as they take on the defending league championship in the first round of the NEC tournament. The Flash are 0-4 against the Eagles all-time.
