Flash women take third, men take fifth at NEC Championship Meet

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Oct. 27, 2007) – The Saint Francis University men’s and women’s cross country teams claimed fifth and third place, respectively, Saturday morning at the 2007 Northeast Conference Championships held at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.  Quinnipiac swept the day, claiming both titles.

In the women’s race, sophomore Anna Hoffman (Enon Valley, PA/Mohawk) paced Saint Francis’ 109-point effort, placing fifth overall and covering the 5K course in a blazing 18:19.4.

Quinnipiac sophomore Kristen Stevens finished first overall with a time of 17:37.7.  Remember these name friends, four of the race’s first five finishers were sophomores.

Junior Shannon Kovack (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville) finished 11th for the Flash, with a time of 18:45.7, with sophomore Allyson Sheehan (19:36.0) taking, 26th place, junior Sarah Rutledge (Parsippany, N.J./Parisippany) (19:55.8) taking 31st place, and senior Antonia Artise (North East, Pa./Iroquois) (20:07.2) rounding out the SFU contingent with a 36th-place finish.

Senior John Balouris (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler) placed sixth overall for the men with a time of 26.36.5, leading the Red Flash to a 133-point, fifth-place finish on the 8K course.

Senior David Holliday (Stonington, Conn./Ledyard) ran a 27:22.1 to capture 21st place, sophomore Christopher Behre (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) (27:43.3) took 33rd, and freshmen Brent DiGiorgio (Armagh, Pa./United) (27:59.8) and Timothy Wertner (Chambersburg, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) (28:00.9) placed 36th and 37th place, respectively.
