Robinson Fruchtl names 2007-08 team captains
LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 25, 2007) – Saint Francis University head women’s basketball coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl has announced that senior Emily Bollinger (Westminster, Md./Westminster), junior Shawna Scott (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy), and sophomore Britney Hodges (Dayton, Ohio/Mount de Chantal Academy) will serve as team captains for the upcoming 2007-08 season.
“Throughout the fall Emily, Shawna, and Britney have demonstrated leadership on the court and have shown they’re ready to take on this role,” said Robinson Fruchtl. “All three bring different strengths as far as their leadership skills and that is extremely valuable to our team.”
Bollinger, the team’s sole senior, has been a consistent performer for the Flash over the past three seasons has stepped forward as the team’s vocal leader this fall. The 6’1” guard averaged 5.3 points per game during her injury-shortened junior season and has shown steady progress since joining the Red Flash in 2004.
Scott emerged as a major offensive weapon for Saint Francis last season averaging 9.4 points per game including two 20-plus point performances. An unquestioned leader on the floor, established herself as a durable workhorse for SFU last season, drawing starts in all 29 games and twice played 38 minutes in a game.
Hodges, a sophomore for the 2007-08 season, has used a stand-out fall to springboard into a leadership role. The 5’ 6” guard’s drive and intensity was evident a year ago when she became the team’s only freshman to play in all 29 games. In limited action (12.8 mpg), Hodges managed 4.3 points per game, twice scoring in double digits.
The Red Flash open their 2007-08 season on Nov. 9 when they visit South Carolina for a 5:30 p.m. appointment with the Gamecocks.
