Gowdy Takes Home Second Career NEC Golfer of the Week Honors
Loretto, Pa. – For the first time this season, Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario / A.B. Lucas.) earned Northeast Conference Golfer of the Week honors. He is in the company of Natalie Desjardins from Long Island University as the other golfer of the week as of the week of October 10th.
Gowdy, a senior Red Flash member, is the first Saint Francis golfer to warrant the label since his head coach, Nick Wheeler, won it on April 11th, 2007. Gowdy and the rest of the Red Flash journeyed out to Moon Township, Va., home of the Robert Morris Colonials, to play on Monday, October 8th and Tuesday, October 9th. Gowdy led the Flash at the 11-team Holiday Inn Pittsburgh Airport Colonial Classic at Montour Heights Country Club by carding a two-round total of 141 (69-73). He earned 5th place, individually, and paced the Flash for a 6th place finish overall.
This is not Gowdy’s first time warranting Golfer of the Week honors. During the week of April 5th, 2006, Gowdy fired two straight rounds of 73 to capture his first career individual title at the Hawk Invitational with a 145. Gowdy inked a 73 on Sunday and sat in second place after the first day of competition. His second round duplicated of 73 thwarted him into first place, winning the Invitational by two strokes.
Gowdy and the rest of the Red Flash will partake in the fall seasonal finale on weekend of October 19th when the swingers travel to Littlestown, Pa. for the 3rd Annual Mount Saint Mary's Fall Classic Quail Valley Golf Club.
