Vespa comes through again in 1-0 win over Canisius

LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 7, 2007) – Junior Alanna Vespa (Ancaster, Ontario/Saint Mary’s Catholic) provided all the offense the Saint Francis University women’s soccer team needed on Friday, scoring the matches’ only goal in a 1-0 win over Canisius College at the Stokes Soccer Complex.

Vespa’s score, her fourth of the season and third in the last two matches, was the result of a header set up by freshman Haleigh Dunyon (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson).  The assist was the first of Dunyon’s collegiate career.

The Red Flash and Golden Griffins looked evenly matched for most of the game, entering halftime at a 0-0 deadlock and finishing the match with 10 shots apiece.  The game-winner came at the 50:49 mark of the second half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Boyer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) stopped all four Canisius shots on goal to post her third consecutive shut-out win of the season.

Saint Francis raised it record to 3-1-0 on the young season and returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Bucknell.
