Hoffman, Wertner Garner NEC Cross Country Weekly Honors

LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 5, 2007) – The Saint Francis University men’s and women’s cross country teams are coming off a strong opening weekend, and two student-athletes were recognized as Northeast Conference weekly award winners for their efforts.

Sophomore Anna Hoffman (Enon Valley, Pa. / Mohawk) was named the NEC Women’s Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Week, while freshman Timothy Wertner (Chambersburg, Pa. / Green Castle-Antrim) captured the NEC Men’s Cross Country Rookie-of-the-Week honor.

Hoffman finished first at the Penn State-Altoona Blue White Classic 4K race, with a time of  14:55.3. Hoffman, who finished 41 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor, helped lead the Red Flash to the team title.

In just his first collegiate meet, Wertner placed third at the Penn State-Altoona Blue White Classic with a time of 16:29.7. Wertner, who was just two seconds off the second-place pace, helped the Red Flash to a first place finish at the meet.
