Reifsteck Shines in Home Loss to Drexel

LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 2, 2007) – Although an upset of the Drexel Dragons wasn’t in the cards for the Saint Francis University field hockey team, that didn’t stop goalkeeper Erin Reifsteck (Battle Creek, Mich./Saint Phillip) from writing a new chapter in the program’s five-season-old history.

Reifsteck, a junior, turned what would have been just a tough-luck loss to Drexel into a bright spot by turning away 17 Dragon shots on goal, to establish a new personal record for saves in a game. The 17 stops ranks third all-time in program annals.

Saint Francis remained in the game from start to finish despite being without four of its top players, who were unavailable for the contest.  The Flash stayed within one goal of the Dragons for most of both halves before giving up two goals late in the second.

The highlight on offense for the Red Flash was a second-half unassisted score by freshman Heather Tiernan (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee), the first of her career.

SFU had three more shots on goal, but all were intercepted by Drexel keeper Coleen McAndrew before they found the back of the net.

The Red Flash fall to 0-2 on the young season with the loss, but will have another shot at posting the season’s first win on Friday at Rhode Island.  The contest is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m.
