Red Flash Cross Country Teams Take Titles at Penn State-Altoona Blue White Classic
ALTOONA, Pa. (Aug. 31, 2007) – Senior John Balouris (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) and sophomore Anna Hoffman (Enon Valley, Pa. / Mohawk) captured individual titles to lead the Saint Francis men’s and women’s cross country teams to titles at the Penn State-Altoona Blue White Classic on Friday in both teams’ first meets of the season.
Hoffman led the Red Flash women’s team by pacing her eight teammates with a time of 14 minutes, 55.3 seconds as SFU finished with a meet-best 23 points. All nine Red Flash runners finished in the Top-13 at the meet. Senior Shannon Kovack (Connellsville, Pa. / Connellsville) and sophomore Allyson Sheehan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) finished second (15:36.9) and third (16:20.1), respectively.
Junior Sarah Rutledge (16:33.5), senior Antonia Artise (16:55.6), freshman Danielle Williams (17:01.7), sophomore Cynthia Mazurak (17:02.7), sophomore Abigale May (17:16.7), and sophomore Julie Yasko (17:25.2) took eighth through 13th, respectively.
On the men’s side, Balouris finished with a time of 16:16.9 as seven of Saint Francis’ runners finished in the Top-13. The Red Flash finished with a team tally of 21 points.
Freshman Timothy Wertner (16:29.7) and junior John Bair (16:46.2) finished third and fourth, respectively, for Saint Francis, while senior Michael Tilger (17:08.3) and freshman Brent Digiorgio (17:15.9) took sixth and seventh, respectively. Freshman Andrew McKee (17:41.2) came in 11th, senior David Holliday (17:57.5) was 13th, freshman Mitch Rosko (18:30.3) was 19th, and sophomore Ben Peacock (19:49.8) took 26th.
