Two Assistants Join SFU Athletic Staff in 2008

LORETTO, Pa. (January 14, 2008) – Saint Francis University announced the appointing of two new employees to the athletic department on Monday.  Aaron Dubow was announced as the new men’s and women’s golf assistant coach and Christine Hamonko was selected as the assistant director for Student-Athlete Development.

Dubow, a native of Findlay, Ohio, will assist SFU men’s golf coach Nick Wheeler and women’s golf coach Chris Cascino in all administrative aspects of the program, as well as exhibit his prowess for the game to enhance the already successful program that conducts play in the competitive Northeast Conference.  Dubow will not only function as the assistant coach for both teams, but he was also designated the title of Assistant Manager of Immergrun Golf Course by the current head manager, Nick Wheeler.  Immergrun Golf Course is Saint Francis’ home golf course located just off central campus in Loretto, Pa.

“I am tremendously enthused about the addition of Aaron Dubow to the Saint Francis golf family,” Wheeler quoted.  “He will be instrumental in the success of both programs during his tenure here at SFU.

Prior to his arrival in Loretto, Dubow taught Health and Physical Education at Chowan Middle School located in Edenton, N.C. starting in 2005.  Dubow taught 6th-8th grade throughout his occupancy in the Chowan County school district.  In addition to his classroom work, Dubow served as the head coach for the women’s basketball team for two years and the head soccer coach for one year.  In the summer of 2005, Dubow was the Physical Education teacher at Bath High school located in Lima, Ohio.  His duties included conducting phys. ed. class as well as organizing several educational field trips for his 9th-12th grade classes.  Dubow got his foot in the teaching door at Chamberlin Hills situated in his hometown of Findlay, Ohio.  He started off as a student teacher in which he developed lesson and behavioral management plans for Kindergarten-5th grade.

Dubow received his B.S. in Physical Education - K-12 in May 2005 from the University of Findlay.  At Findlay, Dubow was member of the Oilers’ golf team where he achieved the Men’s Varsity Golf Award from 1999-2003.

While serving as the graduate for Saint Francis’ golf teams, Dubow will work towards his Master’s Degree in Education.

Hamonko, hailing from local Johnstown, Pa., will act upon numerous responsibilities within the Student-Athlete Development office under the guidance of SFU’s new director of Student-Athlete Development affairs, Craig Theissen.  Theissen was named Interim Director on August 1, 2007, after the departure of Angela Wyss.

Hamonko’s main duties will consist of monitoring the students’ study table hours and aiding Theissen in the tracking of SFU’s student-athletes’ academic progress.  She will also be accountable for facilitating various community service events and life skills programs for the student-athletes and surrounding area.

“I am very excited to have Christine join our athletic department,” Theissen cited. “She brings a great deal of organization, knowledge and professionalism to our student-athletes and will act as a great role model for those that she will interact with.”

Before making the half hour journey northward to Loretto, Hamonko was an administrative assistant for Johnstown Specialty Castings Inc. in which she managed much of the clerical work on top of assisting in bank reconciliation.

Hamonko earned her B.A. in Advertising/Public Relations with a double minor in Business and Sociology from the Pennsylvania State University in December 2006.  Hamonko was engaged in numerous campus events and organizations, including the Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honor Society, Penn State intramural soccer, softball, volleyball plus finding the time to be a member of the Penn State Outdoors and Wildlife Club.

While involving herself with the important tasks Theissen will provide, Hamonko is enrolled in the Business Administration Master’s program at Saint Francis University.
